Minister calls for early completion of RIU

Medical college, urology institute seen as major developments for Rawalpindi and the region

RAWALPINDI: The first syndicate meeting of Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU) was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Minister for Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department Khawaja Sulman Rafique Saturday.

RMU Vice Chancellor Professor Muhammad Umar presented roadmap and plan of action to be executed to transform world into actions to fill the gap between demand and provision of medical teaching and research facilities to make RMU a unique medical education and research institution of the country.

Rafique appreciated the performance and future planning of RMU and said that government has focused on expansion of medical treatment facilities and besides improving the existing health facilities new models of excellence in health sector.

The provincial minister said that huge resources were being spent on construction of state of the art medical institutions in different areas of province.

RMU Vice Chancellor Professor Muhmmad Umar briefed about the on-going activities and proposed training programmes, quality assurance, curriculum up-gradation, RMU Residency Programme, MoU's with reputed foreign institutions, resource management, financial management and various other initiatives adopted to make RMU a centre of excellence.

Rafique visited under construction project of Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU) and directed that the remaining work would be completed in due time.
