PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Pervez Khattak took notice on Tuesday of an alleged assault by District Nazim Mardan Himayatullah Mayar on doctors of Mardan Medical Complex.

Mayar, an Awami National Party leader, was seen manhandling hospital staff and hurling abuses at them in video that has gone viral since Monday.

After taking notice of the incident, CM Khattak stressed that the inquiry should not be politicised as “revenge politics”. “K-P government will not allow bullying in the province,” he added.

Despite repeated attempts, the Mardan mayor remained unavailable for a comment.

Mardan district nazim booked for manhandling on-duty physician

Last year, Mayar was in hot waters over a similar incident after Mardan Police registered a case against him allegedly manhandling an on-duty physician at the Mardan Medical Complex.

The district police officer lodged an FIR on the request of Dr Shakeel Ahmed, who submitted an application after consulting the medical superintendent and other high-ranking officials of the medical facility.

According to the contents of the FIR, the district nazim allegedly threatened to kill the doctor, forced him to the ward and kept him under wrongful confinement for a prolonged time.
