Nawaz Sharif thinks an elected PM is above the law: Imran Khan

PTI chief questions if the head of a state can be involved in money laundering and tax evasion

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Monday criticised deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif for his 'anti-democratic' remarks, saying the latter seemed to think that an elected person is above the law.

"Yesterday, Nawaz Sharif made clear his idea of democracy and of a prime minister heading a democratic government was where the PM is above the law of the land after being elected," Imran wrote on the micro-blogging site Twitter while continuing his tirade against the ousted premier.

"He can money launder, evade taxes, conceal assets, lie before parliament - all corruption is permissible because premier is elected!," the PTI leader added.

Responding to his political arch-rival on the allegation of "duping the people of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa for the past four years", Imran said, "Nawaz as usual also held forth with a litany of lies about the K-P government."



He also said: "Fact is there are 350 micro hydel stations completed in K-P - all Nawaz Sharif had to do was to send his paid hacks to check this out! As for police, health and education reforms - all Nawaz Sharif had to do was to talk to K-P people!"

On Sunday, during a power-packed rally in Peshawar, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief once again criticised judges of the top court who had disqualified him in the Panama Papers verdict in July last year, saying "a few people crushed the public mandate under their feet".

Sharif also hinted at bringing amendments to the Constitution.

"It is believed that they [courts] will disqualify me for life [so you should] give me enough votes to amend the Constitution and get the [disqualification] decision overturned," Nawaz told those in attendance at the rally.
