Section 144 imposed in Quetta

Pillion riding, display of arms prohibited for 10 days

QUETTA: The provincial government has placed a ban on pillion riding and public display of arms in Quetta for 10 days owing to security concerns.

“Pillion riding and display of all kinds of weapons are prohibited for 10 days in the provincial capital,” said a statement issued by the Balochistan Home Department.

The ban is aimed at maintaining peace in the city and relieving the citizens of external threats.



The decision to impose Section 144 and ban on pillion riding has been taken in view of the recent surge in terrorism and target-killing incidents in Quetta.

According to the notification, pillion riding, congregation of more than five people, rallies and exhibition of weapons have been banned in Quetta.

The department clarified that elderly citizens, security personnel and journalists have been exempted from the restriction on pillion riding.

Balochistan, a strategically important region bordering Iran as well as Afghanistan, has witnessed terrorist attacks by groups linked to the Taliban, al Qaeda and Islamic State.



Since 2018, attacks on law enforcement personnel in Quetta and other parts of the city have been on a rise and government officials believe that imposing Section 144 in Quetta district will be helpful in maintaining security.
