PESHAWAR: The second phase of repatriation of around 5,529 temporary displaced persons (TDPs) families of Waziristan from Afghanistan will kick off from tomorrow.
According to the Fata Disaster Management Authority (FDMA), around 10,000 families had migrated to the neighbouring country due to a military offensive against militants in the Waziristan tribal area.
The FDMA data showed that 4,496 out of 10,000 families have already been returned to their hometown -- including Hassan Khel Saidgi, Golak Khel, Haider Khel, Khaddar Khel, Machi and Mizar -- during the first phase of repatriation from Afghanistan.
2.7m Afghans in Pakistan face repatriation
The majority of families belong to Data Khel, Ghulam Khan and Spinwam tehsils and were registered by the National Database and Registration Authority. They will be provided will cooked meal and other non-food items in Baka Khel camps at Bannu.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Haji Iqbal Wazir informed that after holding successful consultation between Pakistan and Afghanistan authorities it has been decided that 100 families will return to Pakistan on a daily basis through Ghulam Khan Pak-Afghan border.
He said that during the second phase of repatriation, 4,329 families will return to their home country. He said that during the first phase over 4,000 families had returned.
Census: Only registered TDPs to be counted
Meanwhile, North Waziristan Political Agent Kamran Khan Afridi while talking to the media confirmed the repatriation of TDPs from February 6.
He said that the TDPs will be accommodated in Baka Khel camp in Bannu and later they will be shifted to their hometowns.
He said food and non-food items will be provided to the TDPs and the government will also pay their transports expanses.
FDMA, Assistant Director, Operations and Relief, Mian Adil Zahoor told The Express Tribune said that the FDMA has completed all arrangements for the new arrivals and will pick them from Ghulam Khan checkpoint.
He said they would be provided cooked meal in camps and added after their registeration with Nadra the government will pay them Rs12,000 per month.
Zahoor said the families had migrated to Khost province of Afghanistan during Operation Zarb-e-Azb against militants.
