KARACHI: The prevalence of dengue-carrying mosquitoes has yet to be brought under control in Karachi. The total number of dengue cases reported in Sindh so far is 93, of which 89 cases occurred in Karachi.

According to the Dengue Prevention and Control Programme, four cases were also reported towards the end of January in Karachi.

Dengue fever is spreading in the city fast and the main reason for it is the construction work under way in many parts of the city where dug up holes are filled with water. Such places are breeding grounds for dengue carrying mosquitoes.

Capital forms task force to prevent dengue virus spread

According to the provincial anti-dengue cell, data is being collected of patients suffering from dengue. These details will be then be sent out to every government hospital so complete data of people suffering from dengue fever can be gathered.

According to the anti-dengue cell, private hospitals are also being asked to gather data about dengue patients and submit them to the dengue cell. Last year, 2,927 people contracted dengue fever, of which 12 people died.
