Breast cancer awareness

At least 97 per cent of patients in the country have had no family history of having the disease

ISLAMABAD: According to recent reports, breast cancer in Pakistan kills over 40,000 women every year. This is a significant number and needs immediate action, especially considering that the occurrence of breast cancer is no longer dependent on an individual’s family history. At least 97 per cent of patients in the country have had no family history of having the disease.

Considering the situation, the provincial and federal governments should carry out campaigns for educating the common people, especially women, about the causes, treatment and cure for the disease. They should also set up camps where women can be tested on a regular basis for detection of the cancer in early stage. Women in general should also undergo tests for early detection of the disease.
