75% construction of two new universities in Loralai, Turbat completed

ISLAMABAD: Two new universities in Loralai and Turbat will start functioning from next month as 75 per cent construction work on the projects has already been completed, Planning Commission sources told APP on Thursday.

The universities, being constructed at a cost of Rs3,049.142 million, will help promote higher education in backward areas of the country.

The University of Turbat is being established at a cost of Rs1,555.391 million whereas the total cost of University of Loralai is Rs1,493.751 million. The Higher Education Commission has provided funds for both the universities.

Sources said that the objective of establishing these universities is to provide better opportunities of higher education to the students of Turbat, Loralai and their adjoining districts - Panjgur, Awaran, Gwadar, Barkhan, Kohlu, Musakhel, Killa Saifullah, Zhob and Ziarat.

Initially, nine programmes in eight departments will be started with a total enrolment capacity of 1,500-2,000 in each university.

"As a result of implementation of these projects, the enrolment of students at graduation, masters, MPhil and PhD level will increase considerably," the sources said.

The programmes include, BBA, BCS, BEd, Bcom, Masters in Education, MBA, 2-year master programme in local languages, two-year master programme in English language, 2-year master programme in political sciences and 2-year programme in mathematics.

The provincial government has already provided 1,000 acres land for development of all proposed facilities at Turbat University and 500 acres for Loralai University.

Similarly, the annual recurring expenditure and income after completion of the Loralai University have been estimated to be the same as is for the Turbat University. Currently, appointments are being made in various faculties of both universities.
