Career fairs in universities

Letter February 02, 2018
Despite the sincere efforts of the universities to get many organisations on board, the practice isn’t of much help.

KARACHI: Over the past few years, private sector universities have started to organise job or career fairs on a regular basis in order to help senior year students with their search for jobs, by providing them a platform to freely network with renowned companies in the country. Despite the sincere efforts on the part of the universities to get as many organisations on board, the practice isn’t of much help to students. This is mainly because many students remain jobless after their graduation and are often seen complaining of the lack of job opportunities available in their respective field of work.

With that, the importance to help students step into the job market increases even more, as it is purposeless to conduct career and job fairs in universities if students remain jobless for a considerable amount of time once they have graduated from their universities. More pragmatic efforts are needed.
