The CJP wondered how the accused left the country and asked what measures have been taken to bring him back. The court also sought progress report from the Inspector-General within 24 hours.
Brother of accused arrested
Earlier today Kohat police informed they have arrested Mujahid Afridi's brother Sadiq, after the former fled to Saudi Arabia, reported Express News.
Kohat police have stated Sadiq was present when Mujahid opened fire on Rani. The brother was arrested from Kohat and moved to an unknown location where investigation is underway.
The District Police Officer Kohat Abbas Majeed Marwat (DPO) in a press conference stated that a red warrant has been issued against Mujahid and he will be brought back to Pakistan through the help of Interpol. DPO further stated there is no political pressure on the police.
During the press conference DPO Kohat also said in order to win the case important forensic evidence from the crime scene will collected and presented to the court.
"We are striving to avoid any innocent from being punished; however, fulfilling all the requirements of justice, the suspects involved in the murder case will be punished for their wrong doing," the district police officer stated further.
Female medical student shot dead ‘for rejecting proposal’
Mujahid and his brother shot Rani dead on Saturday after she reportedly turned down a marriage proposal by the former. Rani, a third-year MBBS student at Ayub Medical College, had named Mujhaid as her killer in a statement before her death.
Mujahid fled to Saudi Arabia the same day, with Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police approaching Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to bring him back through the Interpol.
“Mujahid had an Umrah visa in advance and he left for Saudi Arabia the very same day after committing the crime,” DPO told The Express Tribune.
Rani was on vacation in her hometown Kohat when the incident happened, Kohat Development Authority police station SHO Gul Janan said. When she and her sister-in-law reached home on Saturday, Mujahid, accompanied by his brother opened fire at her as she got out of the rickshaw and fled the crime scene, the police official said. She was shot thrice and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she died on Sunday, SHO Janan said.
