Hub Rally Cross: Ronnie Patel victorious in ‘A’ Prepared Class event

Driver clocks 18 minutes and 47 seconds to cover 11-km track twice

KARACHI: Demonstrating fine driving skills and brilliant control, the experienced Ronnie Patel won the ‘A’ Prepared Class event of Toyota Highway Motor Hub Rally Cross at the Max Dirt Arena at Hub.

Driving a 4000cc Toyota Vigo, Patel won the title of Toyota Motors Hub Rally as he completed the two laps of 11-kilometre track in just 18 minutes and 47 seconds at the Max Dirt track in Hub.

Patel was followed by Sahibzada Sultan Muhammad Ali who finished third in the last edition and was just six seconds behind this year, completing the race in 18 minutes and 53 seconds. Meanwhile, Asif Imam finished third with his time of 19 minutes and 54 seconds.

In the Women’s category, Rija Ashraf clinched the first position. In Prepared ‘B’ category, Sahibzada Fawad won the first position followed by Tushna Patel while Muzamil Shirwani finished third. In Prepared ‘C’ category, Kashif Khan won the first position with Muhammad Dhanji finishing second.

In the Stock ‘A’ category, raced over just one lap of 11 km, Mansoor Aleem finished first followed by Umer Soomro on second and Nasir Khan on third position.

In the Stock ‘B’ category, Danish Imam finished first, Naveed Wasti finished second while Taimoor Ali Khan finished on third spot.

Patel lauded chief organiser Shujaat Shirwani’s contribution in promoting motorsports in the country.

“Soon we will have much bigger events and much safer tracks for the racers in Pakistan,” Patel said while talking to The Express Tribune. “The competition in this year’s event was tougher and we hope that more drivers will come to participate in the event in the coming years.”

Shujaat emphasised the importance of safe racing tracks for the racers of Karachi. “We want to give the racers of Karachi a safer track to race on under the rules and laws of motorsports. We want to bring the racers from the streets of Karachi to race on proper professional tracks,” he said.
