PU Syndicate elections: Four teachers’ groups vying for coveted slots today

Polling will start from 9am and end at 4pm at Waheed Shaheed Hall

LAHORE: The University of the Punjab will hold its syndicate elections to elect one teacher from each of the four cadres, professor, associate professor, assistant professor, and lecturer on Monday (today).

Polling will start from 9:00am and end at 4:00pm at Waheed Shaheed Hall at the Institute of Education and Research (IER). Four groups of teachers have fielded their candidates for the elections.

Teachers Front Founders Group headed by Principal PUCIT Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar has fielded Dr Shahid Ghazi for professor slot. He is from Institute of Geology. Dr Hafiz Muhammad Rafique is a candidate for the slot of associate professor. He is from the Department of Physics. Javed Sami is a candidate for the slot of assistant professor. He is from the Department of Space Science while and Shamaila Gull is contesting for the slot of lecturer. She is from Institute of Business and IT.

Teachers Front led by Principal University Law College and wife of the former vice chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran, Dr Shazia Qureshi is being represented by Dr Sajid Rashid Ahmad for professor slot. He is from College of Earth and Environmental Studies (CEES). Dr Mehboob Hussain is contesting for the slot of associate professor. He is from the Department of History. Dr Chaudhry Naeemullah Khan is a candidate for the slot of assistant professor. He belongs to University Law College and Dr Yumna Sadaf is a candidate for the slot of lecturer. She is from CEES.

Academic Forum led by Faculty of Oriental Studies Dean and Chairman Department of Persian Dr Saleem Mazhar, is being represented by Dr Khalid Mahmood. He is contesting for the slot of professor. Dr Asmatullah is a candidate for the slot of associate professor. The term of four representatives of teachers, elected through elections, on the seats of professor, associate professor, assistant professor and lecturer, had expired in June 2017.
