Nine burnt in gas explosion

Explosion occurred in Shaheedabad area early Saturday morning

PESHAWAR: Nine people including children and women were left seriously burnt in a gas explosion here in Shaheedabad area of the city early Saturday morning.

Speaking to The Express Tribune Rescue 1122’s spokesperson Bilal Faizi said that around 6:30 in the morning an explosion took place in the house of a local resident Fayyaz, which was soon followed by a large fire in Shaheedabad area.

“The explosion occurred when someone tried to light a heater as gas was filled in the room due to leakage,” he said, adding that soon a large fire also started and it left all the nine people in the room including children and women badly burnt.

“The Rescue 1122 was informed about the fire which our firefighters brought under control after 30 minutes of fire fighting activity,” added Faizi, saying that all the nine injured were shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital of which one had 100 per cent burn injuries and was shifted to PIMS in Islamabad for treatment.

The gas utility services continuously warn the people to shut appliances before going to bed and particularly if the gas supply has stopped.
