Accused arrested in UC chairman's murder case

Statements of MPA booked in the case and his brother recorded

HYDERABAD: In the case of the murder of a union council chairman, Raees Karamullah Chandio, and his two sons, Dadu district police arrested on Thursday one of the accused nominated in the FIR. Separately, MPA Nawab Sardar Khan Chandio, Burhan Chandio and others appeared before the case's inquiry officer, Hyderabad SSP Peer Muhammad Shah, and recorded their statements.

SSP Qamar Raza Jiskani told a press conference in Dadu district that an accused in the FIR, Sikandar Chandio, had been arrested after an encounter with the police along Fareedabad Road. SSP Jiskani added that two other suspects accompanying Sikandar had escaped.

The SSP also claimed that the weapon used in the crime on January 17 had been recovered. He said the police were also trying to arrest other suspects booked in the FIR.

Karamullah and his sons Mukhtiari Chandio and Kamil Chandio were shot dead in an attack on their house in Ahmed Colony in Mehar taluka on January 17. An alleged assailant, Ghulam Qadir Chandio alias Qadu, was also shot dead in the retaliatory firing. A few persons including Karamullah's family members also sustained injuries.

Meanwhile, in Hyderabad the MPA and his brother Burhan, who have also been nominated in the FIR of multiple murders, recorded their statements before SSP Shah. They brought along four witnesses who testified that at the time of the incident one of them was in Hyderabad and the other in Tando Muhammad Khan district.

The SSP claimed that he was checking data of phone calls of all the accused persons, besides collecting other evidence to reach a conclusion in the inquiry.
