SC halts distribution of 24 mineral water companies

Companies should have enough consciousness to provide the people with clean water, says CJP

News Desk January 25, 2018

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar halted country-wide distribution of 24 mineral water companies on Thursday.

A three-member bench was formed under the CJP which began the hearing of the provision of clean water case today. The counsel for the defendant mineral water company claimed that the water provided is clean and safe for drinking.

"The court can summon the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PCSQA) report if required," the company's lawyer said.

Provision of clean drinking water ‘top priority’

CJP remarked that hiring an influential lawyer will not manipulate the outcomes of the hearing. "Companies should have the consciousness to provide clean water, we have to care for the people and the children," he added.

The court then ordered distribution of all 24 companies to be stopped until further notice. The court adjourned the hearing for indefinitely.

But please also consider that 84% of the general public is using tap water that is not suitable for drinking. Who is accountable on that? I believe SC should also summon the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PCSQA) for their report to consider the other side of the picture.
