PIMS short of nephrologists

The hospital sees up to 50 patients every day, with just two working nephrologists

ISLAMABAD: The Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry on Wednesday told the National Assembly that as many as 50 patients avail dialysis facilities at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) every day.

Replying to a question during the question hour in the House, Chaudhry said that at the moment there are 12 dialysis machines in Pims of which 11 machines are working. However, the hospital is short on nephrologists with only two working at the hospital.

Chaudhry said that 242 beds were available in the children’s wards while the children’s emergency had 12 beds.

To a question, the minister said that the government was considering to expand the Federal General Hospital (FGH) in Chak Shahzad. Apart from offering outdoor and indoor emergency services, it is also providing laboratory and radiological diagnostic facilities.
