ISLAMABAD: Having completed three months at the helm of the apex anti-corruption body, its chief has asked all the regional bodies under it to submit progress reports on complaints filed.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has sought reports from the director generals of all the regional bureaus of the body on the action they have taken on corruption complaints lodged by the public in their respective regions since October 11, 2017.

NAB regional chiefs told to hear public complaints

Justice Iqbal also sought a report on whether the complainants were told that their complaints were successfully received and work is in progress on them.

In case of failure to issue receipts, the regional bureaus have been directed by the NAB chief to determine which officer or official was responsible.

“Such officers have no place in NAB,” Justice Iqbal was quoted as saying by a statement issued by NAB on Wednesday. In this regard, the NAB chief said that they had already devised a mechanism to listen to the public’s complaints related to corruption on the last Thursday of every month.

So much so, Justice Iqbal said that he himself was listening to peoples’ complaints for the past two months at the NAB Headquarters in Islamabad.

NAB to use grading system

He directed the director generals of all regional bureau to take out two hours, from 2pm to 4pm on the last Thursday of each month to listen to the public’s complaints.

The NAB chief further directed all regional DGs to resolve people's complaints if laws allows them to do so whilst all other complaints should be forwarded to the NAB Headquarters for processing as per law and complainants informed about the progress of their complaints.
