Utilising young talent: PHEC chairman stresses need for market-based education

Says courses must be arranged to provide manpower in gulf as well

LAHORE: Punjab Higher Education Commission Chairman Prof Dr Nizamuddin has called upon the need to trace reasons behind unemployment and provide market-oriented education to the students at institutions of higher learning.

He was addressing the degree awarding ceremony of Punjab University Hailey College of Commerce on Wednesday. Hailey College of Commerce Principal Prof Dr Hasan Mobeen Alam, Controller of Examinations Prof Dr Shahid Munir, senior faculty members and large number of students were present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Nizamuddin said that there was need to know about market demands so that curriculum could be developed on modern lines and special certification courses could be introduced. He said that we must utilise our young talent and training courses must be arranged to provide manpower in the gulf region as well. Dr Nizamuddin said that there was an abundance of resources in Pakistan that must be utilised in the right manner. He said that the innovative products and ideas must be commercialised for the benefit of society and academic institutions.

HCC Principal Prof Dr Hasan Mobeen Alam said that our mission was prosperity and progress of our country and we needed to make untiring efforts for it. He said that the college was organising job fairs and co-curricular activities to polish talent of its students. In the ceremony, degrees of M Phil in Commerce session 2013-2015, M Com 2-year session 2013-2015, M Com 3½-year 2011-2015 and B Com Honors session 2011-2015 were awarded to 550 students.

Seminar on Dr Ambedkar today

Moreover, Punjab University Center for South Asian Studies (CSAS) in collaboration with Sir Ganga Ram Heritage Foundation will organise an international seminar on Dr Ambedkar on “Ambedkar’s Mission of Annihilation of Caste and Present Situation”  today at 11am at Al-Raazi Hall.

On the occasion, Evacuee Trust Property Board Chairman Saddique ul Farooq will be the chief guest while PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakir will preside over the ceremony. Social Activist from India Manjula Pradeep, Dr Parmod Kumar, Manisha Mashaal, Vidya Bhushan Rawat, PU Faculty of Arts and Humanities Dean Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal Chawla and others will also attend the ceremony.

PU declares results

Punjab University Examinations Department has declared the results of MSc Social Work Part-I Annual Examination 2017 and BS Home Economics Part-II (Third Year) second annual 2017. Detailed result was also available at PU website www.pu.edu.pk.
