Japanese consulate hosts three-day karate workshop

KARACHI: The Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi and Pakistan Karate Association co-hosted 'Karate Workshop, 2018' at the Japan Information and Culture Centre from January 21 to January 23 to promote one of Japan's traditional martial arts.

The workshop was organised on the occasion of the visit of Katsutoshi Shiina, a Japanese master of Shotokan karate and also an official instructor at the Japan Karate Association (JKA).

Karate is an internationally recognised form of martial arts originating in Japan and has become popular in Pakistan. It is believed that there are approximately 40,000 karate players in Pakistan.



Karate will be included in the Olympic event from the Tokyo Olympic Games, 2020. In such a momentum, the workshop was a good opportunity to promote the recognition and feeling of closeness to

Karate as a new Olympic sport in Pakistan and strengthen the cultural relationship between Japan and Pakistan.



The Japanes consul-general considers it is important to establish a further relationship between Japan and Pakistan in various fields. The workshop will contribute to the development of the cultural ties between the two countries and enhance cooperation in the sports sector.
