Education expo starts off with a bang

More than 100 stalls set up for students to explore

KARACHI: The Fifth All Sindh Education Expo 2018 kicked off on Saturday at the Expo Centre in Karachi. Thousands of students took part in one of the largest events to take place at the venue.

The two-day event will end today (Sunday). Thousands of students from schools, colleges and universities attended the event at which more than 100 stalls were set up by government and private schools, colleges and other organisations.

The event, which continues from 10am till 10pm, has models on display to educate students coming from other schools.

Kissa Zehra, a student of class eight, presented a windmill model she and other students Umber Grammar School put together. She said that they have made the project solely for the exhibition. "Our project required a lot of hard work and time but it was worth it after receiving so much appreciation at the exhibition,” she said

Students of District Municipal Corporation Central Government School made a miniature water turbine. According to class 10 student Ibrahim Murtaza, the water turbine was generating enough power to light a small bulb.

A female teacher at a private school was of the view that such events help educate the students through different activities. "Those who remain only in the four walls of their classrooms fall behind those whose education includes hand on skills outside their classrooms,” she said.

During the exhibition qirat, naat and speech competitions were also held among the students and shields were awarded to the winners.

Nazakat Mehmud, a student of the diploma of associate engineering programme at Keman Institute of Management Sciences, said exhibitions like these give an opportunity for students to showcase their work. “We're lucky that our work got selected for demonstration at such a platform where thousands of students are participating,” he said.
