KARACHI: Political parties on Saturday widely condemned the "Free Karachi" campaign launched by Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L) in the United States.

The movement began following the murder of Professor Hasan Zafar Arif who was found dead in the Ibrahim Hyderi area of Karachi last week.

The smear campaign “Free Karachi” was seen on taxis and mini-trucks when Americans are observing “Martian Luther King Jr Day”.

“We strongly condemn this campaign promoting the dismemberment of Pakistan and ask our prime minister as well as foreign minister to take immediate notice by taking proper action,” PTI Parliamentary leader in Sindh Assembly Khurrum Sher Zaman said.

Zaman added that MQM-L, which is now working as the arch rival of Pakistan, has joined hands with India in this campaign to destabilise Karachi and Pakistan.

“As Pakistanis, we know that our enemies are engaging us in a fourth generation war by using tactics such as media manipulation, propaganda and psychological warfare,” he said.

PPP’s leader Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said MQM-London and its leadership have no personal agenda, but it has always worked with anti-Pakistan elements, so the federal government should take notice of it.

Sadaruddin Shah Rashdi of Pakistan Muslim League Functional (PML-F) however was confident that the campaign will ultimately fail.

“This drama is being staged with the help of India, which had earlier started the same campaign using Baloch insurgents. Since MQM-L is key partner of India in destabilising Pakistan, so this is being repeated in US now,” he remarked.

Shah Mohammad Shah of the PML-N and Ayaz Latif Palijo of Qaumi Awami Tehreek in their separate statements condemned “Free Karachi” campaign and called upon the federal government to take the campaign seriously and take prompt action in this regard.
