JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman elected MMA president

General council comprising 20 members of the alliance formed

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has been elected as the president of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), an alliance of religio-political parties.

According to Express News, during a meeting of MMA in Lahore, a general council comprising 20 members of the alliance was formed.

MMA, in a statement issued on Friday, said that the aim of their struggle was to develop the society and form an Islamic welfare state. It said that all decisions will be made on the basis of consensus, and any attack by non-religious elements will be retaliated.

The statement added that the constitutional rights of all the federal institutions will be taken care of.



“Pakistan’s stand on the Kashmir issue is based on principle. Kashmir dispute is the main cause of conflict between Pakistan and India, hence, resolution of the Kashmir dispute is inevitable to improve relations between the two countries”, the statement said.

According to JUI-chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the next meeting of the alliance will be held in February.

“All factions of MMA will observe 'Kashmir Solidarity Day’. MMA has been revamped, now we need to go back to the registration process”, he added.



Last month, the provincial leadership of five religio-political parties announced the establishment of the MMA for contesting the next elections from a single platform.

The alliance includes JUI-F, the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), the Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP), the Jamiat Ahle Hadith (JAH) and the Islami Tehreek, also called Shia Ulema Council.

However, the JUI-S that was a part of the MMA that won elections in K-P in 2002 kept away from the alliance, having already joined hands with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
