ECP launches voters’ verification campaign in Multan

MULTAN: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has launched a campaign for the verification of already registered voters, registration of new votes and cancellation of votes or their adjustment in new blocks in Multan Division.

Regional Election Commissioner Abid Hussain said about 80,000 votes would be verified in Multan district, while 500,000 votes would be adjusted in the new blocks of Multan, Shujabad and Jalalpur Pirwala.

The ECP also conferred the special powers of district registration officer to the district election commissioners (DECs) in the region.

Education departments' assistant education officers (AEOs) have been deputed as the assistant registration officers (AROs) with special duties of 2,316 teachers for the campaign. The ECP has also hired the services of the other senior officials from education and other departments and deputed them as supervisors.

Hussain said ECP authorities were going door-to-door for the registration of votes, to verify the death of the voters and adjustment of votes. He said the ECP campaign would continue till February 8.

The fresh data would be entered into the related official records within 10 days by the ECP officials after final verification. The ECP has also established 200 special display centres in Multan Division to display the new voter lists after compiling the fresh data at local level.

The special display centres have been set up at the government offices, schools and colleges to facilitate the local people and these centres would be functional within next couple of days, said the senior ECP official.
