Road expansion left incomplete

Letter January 18, 2018
The authorities concerned must take appropriate action to ensure that the expansion project is completed

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has cut down more than 200 trees lined along the road for the expansion of Attaturk Avenue, commonly known as the Embassy Road, according to a news report.

Despite the directives issued by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the CDA has now left the project in limbo in violation of the rule about informing the agency beforehand. For months now no further work has been carried out for the expansion of the road. Further, the EPA could also initiate legal action against the CDA for violating its directives.

The authorities concerned must take appropriate action to ensure that the expansion project is completed and that the CDA is charged with not following the required procedure for cutting down the trees.
