The law should be implemented strictly to prevent law enforcers from the misuse of their discretion
KARACHI: In an admirable move the chief minister of Sindh has decided to order a judicial inquiry into the murder of a 21-year-old youth in DHA Karachi. The incident reminds one of an incident when a youth was shot dead by personnel of a law-enforcement agency, while at the same time it also shows the misuse of power by those responsible to protect the citizens. Although those involved are already in police custody and on remand, the chief minister of Sindh must assure the victim’s family that the culprits will be awarded deterrent punishment and no political or any other extraneous pressure will be brooked.
The government should enact a law to prevent personnel of the police and other law-enforcement agencies from killing innocent people. The law should be implemented strictly to prevent law enforcers from the misuse of their discretion.
