KARACHI: Association of Builders and Developers of Pakistan (ABAD) Chairperson Arif Yousuf Jeewa appreciated the decision of the Supreme Court (SC) to allow construction of buildings up to six floors in Karachi.

He said the decision of the apex court would have a far-reaching impact on the construction industry in the city.

This decision will help meet the demand for housing units in the city and create many jobs, he said.

Jeewa expressed his hope that the SC will revisit the decision of a ban on high-rise buildings in the mega city as there was a big gap in demand and supply of housing units.

He recalled that the construction activities in Karachi had come to a halt and more than 70 allied industries were also facing serious problems due to a ban on the construction of high-rises.

Apex court permits construction of six-floor buildings in Sindh

Understanding the gravity of the issue, the larger bench of the apex court, under Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, took up on Sunday the application filed by builders and developers and allowed builders construction of buildings up to six floors, Jeewa said, adding that this has brought relief to the construction industry.

He said it was appreciable that the SC had ordered the Sindh government and the concerned department to take quick action to end the water crisis in the city.
