ISLAMABAD: Valuables worth millions of rupees were looted in seven separate robbery and mugging incidents reported in the capital. Police have registered cases in these incidents, though, they are mostly against unidentified thieves involved in these crimes. The Aabpara police registered two cases after a man was mugged at gunpoint in Sector G-7/2 while a house was looted in Sector G-6/1. In both the cases, police have so far found no clues as to the identity of the suspects. While the house was robbed on November 5, 2017, the police only registered an FIR only on January 13.

When contacted, the Aabpara police blamed the victim for waiting for so long before reporting the crime to the police. “We registered the FIR the same day we received an application [about the robbery],” said an officer at the Aabpara police station. The victim in his application said that the burglars had made off with an LED television, a camera, prize bonds, an unspecified amount of cash and unstitched clothes from the house in the nighttime raid. Similarly, unidentified car thieves stole a Suzuki Mehran car from DHA Phase-two, within the remits of Sihala police station. Separately, a motorbike was stolen from a house in Sector G-13/1.

Another Suzuki Mehran car was stolen by unidentified car thieves from within the remits of the Sihala police, but officials managed to recover the car and arrest two suspected car thieves.  In another case, suspects broke into a car and stole jewellery worth hundreds of thousands of rupees. The victim said that their car had been parked in the upscale Sector F-8/4 when thieves broke into it.
