Sindh’s social welfare sector

A news report mentioned the ban by the Sindh High Court on recruitment in the social welfare sector in the province

KARACHI: The social welfare sector in Pakistan is already confined to a limited few federal and provincial governments’ initiatives and programmes. Owing to which there is a dire need for the expansion of the sector, which now primarily comprises non-governmental organisations and privately-run initiatives.

A recent news report mentioned the ban placed by the Sindh High Court on recruitment in the social welfare sector in the province. The recruitment criteria, along with certain other factors, has been put forward as the main cause for not a single employee being recruited during the past fiscal year, as the minister concerned, too, appeared unaware of the main cause and the correct figures for the total employees working in the sector. A probe into the matter is important to save the already almost non-existent social welfare sector in Sindh.
