PESHAWAR:

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain said on Sunday that the concerns of labour community would be addressed under the 18th Amendment as the government gives precedence to the rights of hardworking labour.

He expressed these views while addressing a function held by the Labour Federation to mark Labour Day at Mardan Town Hall
on Sunday.

A large number of labour leaders and workers from Mardan, Nowshera and Swat were also present on the occasion. The minister said that the provinces got autonomy under the “revolutionary” 18th Amendment, adding that the rights and privileges of people who had earlier been ignored would be safeguarded at all levels.

He said, “Certain vested interests are creating hurdles in provincial autonomy and provincial rights but their attempts will be foiled through combined efforts.”

He said that the government believes in providing due rights to the labour community and, “Creating a Labour Ministry clearly depicts our sincerity to resolve the issues of labour on priority basis.”

Mian Iftikhar said that the militancy greatly affected investment in the industrial sector but a comprehensive plan would be devised to revive closed industrial units.

While condemning drone attacks, Mian Iftikhar urged the American government to provide drone technology to Pakistan to combat the militancy in a better way.

He said, “Our province is rich with natural resources, which, if fully explored, will help eradicate ignorance and poverty.”

He said that labour is an asset and their welfare is our top priority.
