No matter who the VVIP movement is for, citizens of Karachi shouldn't be affected: CJP

'Will leave this position if ordered to do so,' Khwaja responded to claims of replacement

Chief Justice Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar presided over a three-member bench at the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry for hearing of VVIP movement case.

During the hearing of the VVIP Movement case, CJP remarked, “no matter who the VVIP movement is for, the residents of the city should not be not affected by it.”



During the hearing, CJP asked Inspector General Sindh (IG) of the difficulties faced by people of Karachi due to roads blockade. “What are the rights of the civilians who live here, AD Khwaja?” questioned Justice Nisar during the hearing.

IG Sindh replied saying there are certain protocols and laws attached to VVIP movement.

“I am also a VVIP, but the roads don’t get blocked when I am travelling,” CJP remarked. “Not all roads are closed, for the safety of the movement, we organize and close off traffic for not more than two minutes,” AD Khwaja replied.

CJP then directed Khwaja to submit an affidavit with information that roads will not be continuously blocked for civilians during VVIP movement and then said the affidavit will be evaluated by the bench in the best interest of the residents.

IG’S reaction

Speaking to the media outside SC’s Karachi Registry, AD Khwaja said, “I will leave this position if I get the orders to do so.” He stated, “We try our best to make sure civilians go through least amount of difficulties”.



When asked whether a new IG for Sindh is to be deployed, Khwaja replied saying the day he gets the orders, he will leave his position.

It is pertinent to note that Sindh government has tried thrice in the past to remove Khwaja from the position of IG. But all three times, the government has failed. The new consented replacement is Abdul Majeed Dasti.
