RAWALPINDI: A local court on Friday awarded life sentence to a serial knife attacker who had allegedly stabbed to death a woman in 2016.

Muhammad Ali, 24, had attacked 17 working women in the city over the past few months. Most of the attacks were carried out during load-shedding at night-time.

Rawalpindi Additional District and Sessions Judge Raja Qamar Sultan sentenced Muhammad Ali to life in jail on the murder charges and also gave 10 years in prison for attempted murder.

The accused was present in court as the judge read out his sentence.

In his confessional statement, earlier, Ali had admitted that he felt satisfaction after stabbing women because he hated them.

The convicted, according to his statement, said his mother had been mistreated by her in-laws and she died of cancer when he was one-year old.

Later, my father remarried and I lived with my grandfather and an aunt as my stepmother mistreated me, Ali added.

He said that failure in love was also the reason of attacking women.

He used to go out every night and target women in the city. Once I had attacked three different women within an hour, he admitted.

One of his victims, Anum Naz, a 26-year-old nurse at the Fauji Foundation Hospital, had died after being stabbed while going to her hostel.

Police had arrested Ali during a search operation on Aug 12, 2016.
