In conversation with Kumail Nanjiani and Gal Gadot
Just when you thought Gal Gadot was the epitome of perfection, Lebanese fashion giant Elie Saab has landed itself in hot water by sharing a photograph of the Israeli star wearing a dress from its collection. The Wonder Woman looked stunning in the blue sash dress at the National Board of Review Awards Gala earlier this week but not everyone thought so.
Elie Saab's Instagram page posted an image of Gadot with a description of the "flawless" actor in the brand's Ready-to-Wear Spring Summer 2018. But since there are tensions between Israel and Lebanon, the post immediately sparked a backlash online before being removed altogether.
A Lebanese journalist Heba Bitar commented on social media, "I love and respect Elie Saab, but is he really happy an Israeli actress wore a dress that he designed?”
Another social media user wrote, "I'm not going to ask why Gal would wear Elie Saab... but I'm asking why his team would post it? Unacceptable!"
This is not the first time the Lebanese have spoken out against Gadot though. Just last year, her superhero film Wonder Woman was banned from cinemas across Lebanon. Gadot has served in the Israeli army as a combat trainer for two years and Lebanon's Ministry of Economy issued the ban just before the film was scheduled to premiere. It was reportedly blocked by the government because of the star's nationality and her support for Israel's army.
