An under-trial prisoner will be presented before a civil surgeon, who will determine if he was being maltreated in prison, said the court on Monday.
Sindh High Court’s Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Shahid Anwar Bajwa were hearing a petition filed by Parveen Taj, who alleged that her son, Kamran Awan, was falsely implicated in cases by the North Nazimabad and other police stations. She said that the police are demanding money for his release.
During the hearing, her counsel said that at the behest of police officers, the prison officials are maltreating Awan for money. The judges told the superintendent of Central Prison, Karachi, to produce him before the surgeon, who would file a report on his health.
The judges issued notices to the Sindh advocate-general and the prosecutor general, and asked the investigations SP to submit a report on cases registered against Awan.
