PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday dismissed the petition filed against the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra for allegedly holding dual positions.

Senior lawyer Khurshid Khan filed the writ petition challenging Jhagr’s position on the grounds that he has been elected as general secretary of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), which makes him unfit for the post of governor under the 1973 constitution.

PHC’S two-judge bench comprising Justice Roohul Amin and Justice Qalander Ali Khan asked the petitioner to present the notification of his party position. However, the petitioner responded that he has no notification but was reported in daily newspapers.

“We cannot trust and make decision on the basis of newspaper cuttings,” remarked Justice Rooh Ul Amin while rejecting the petition against the governor.
