ISLAMABAD:
Police have arrested a man who had allegedly doused his wife with oil before setting her on fire, which ultimately led to her death on Thursday.

Ambreen Bibi had been rushed to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) with critical burn injuries where she died in the early hours of Thursday.

Woman burnt alive for refusing second marriage permission

Initially, Ambreen’s husband, Zubair, had claimed that his wife had suffered the burn injuries due to gas explosively combusting in a gas cylinder. The woman’s mother and other family members, though, suspected foul play.

They subsequently approached the police with a request to probe Zubair’s claims of a cylinder blast.

A police investigator told The Express Tribune that during their investigations, they discovered that Ambreen had been doused with crude oil by Zubair and then set on fire.  Police subsequently arrested Zubair and booked him for murder.
