The Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works met at the Parliament House on Thursday with Senator Maulana Tanveerul Haq in the chair.
The committee reviewed the status of housing societies being built in Islamabad’s Sector I-16, Bhara Kahu and Thalian.
Senators were told that scores of government employees and people from other walks of life had invested in these housing projects. However, these projects have consistently been facing delays.

The issue got to a point that it was taken up by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the parliament. The PAC had subsequently even referred some cases to the apex anti-corruption watchdog, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to probe the case.
At this, the committee’s members said that they will soon visit these projects.
In Sector I-16, the Pakistan Housing Authority has been building a housing complex.
The authority has been divided into 24 blocks on which apartments will be built. Each apartment will be spread over 1,496 square feet.
With the fate of the Margalla Towers still in their minds, the committee sought a detailed report on the material and other items used in the construction of these apartments.
