Karachi Eat 2018: All you need to know about the big festival this weekend

KARACHI: Gear up Karachi! The most anticipated event of the year is finally here. Karachi EAT is back for the fifth time and it's gonna be bigger and better than ever!

With more than 300,000 people expected to attend the festivals in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, the organisers are keen to make the biggest public food festival in Karachi better than last year. The number of stalls has increased this time but the vendors have been carefully selected and you can expect delicious new flavours and some old favourites as well.

On the festivals 5th anniversary, Aslam Khan and Omar Omari of CKO Event Architecture have said, “This is the year of the ‘BIG EAT’. We have raised the bar in terms of venue size, number of participants,  surprise performances from Pakistan’s leading pop singers and much more. We remain focused on our objective behind the festival, which is to provide great family entertainment, reactivation of public spaces around our cities and to inspire a community spirit. ”

Here is all you need to know about Karachi Eat 2018.

1. When and where

The venue of Karachi Eat has been changed from the famous Frere Hall to Benazir Bhutto Park near Boat Basin. The festival will start from Friday, January 12, to Sunday, January 14. The timings for Friday are starting from 4pm to 10pm. On Saturday and Sunday, the festival will commence from 12:30pm to 10:30pm.

2. Ticket price

The ticket price is slightly higher this year. Entry will now cost Rs 300 while last year it was Rs 250. However, Rs 100 from the ticket are still redeemable like last year's.

3. Stalls

Karachi Eat will feature a whopping 125 stalls to choose from this time! With vendors coming in from Islamabad and Lahore, there is more variety and more food! However, your favourties from last tear will be returning, such as Wingitt, Saniya's Kitchen, Oh My Grill, Chapli Kebab, Pantry, Chai Wala, Khao Dosa, D'oh, Bond Street Waffles, Coco9, Awesomosas from Lahore, Rajoos Ice Cream and Desi Gali. Yay!

4. Performances

Performances from Aaroh, Atif Aslam, Fuzon and Asim Azhar are what most of us are looking forward to!

Apart from the delicious food, Karachi Eat is a hub for entertainment! With brilliant performances to look forward to, there are fun booths for kids as well. Onederland and live painting stalls are being set up to entertain not just the kids but adults as well.

6. Cuisines

Foodies will be able to treat themselves to more than eight different cuisines all under one roof, including Thai, Japanese, Sri Lankan, Parsi, Mexican, Swiss, Chinese, South Indian and Pakistani, etc.

7. EATSAPP

This is a new phone app designed for and launching at Karachi Eat but will be active even after the festivals. EATSAPP is a directory of restaurants and eateries in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad which allows users to capture images, review and rate their favourite eateries.
