Rana Sanaullah rejects Taseer's accusations

A war of words brewed up in Punjab Tuesday, as the provincial law minister Rana Sanaullah rejected Punjab Governor Salman Taseer's accusations regarding the government running the province into deficit.

Talking to Express, Sanaullah also said no relative of the Punjab Chief Minister is using bullet proof vehicles, as stated by Taseer. He added that people in poor areas get two meals a day through the sasti roti scheme.

Earlier, Salman Taseer had lashed out at the Punjab government and said that the sasti roti scheme was a fraud.

Talking to the media at the Governor House, Lahore after his trip to the US, Taseer said that the Punjab government was openly using the public exchequer. He asserted that the province faces a deficit of Rs25 billion in uncollected taxes.

He declared PML-N's Model Town and Raiwind residence "camp offices".

He said that the sasti roti scheme is a fraud, adding that Rs30,000 subsidy per tandoor is heavily damaging the public exchequer.

Taseer added that more than 800 Elite Police personnel are deployed for safeguarding Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif and their relatives.

Hassan | 13 years ago | Reply Regardless of Taseer's 'party guy' image, he has the right to criticise the Sharifs who have so much wealth for their families and not even a single penny for the people of Pakistan. Taseer is more progressive than these as he runs huge projects from his own pockets for the people's welfare such as Pace Woodlands, Pace Shopping Malls and Pace Towers. Can anyone tell me of how many welfare projects the Sharifs have constructed in the current term from their own pockets? As for Rana Sanuallah, I know the kind of guy he is.

J.A | 13 years ago | Reply Salman Taseer openly criticizing the Sharif brothers isn't a very big thing to do. I mean, who is he really pointing fingers at? You go out one day, the entire traffic is blocked. Why? Because the Governor of Punjab had to go from one place to another. Taseer's escort is massive too. Nobody is correct here. Fingers are pointed at these people everyday, 100 times a day. What do we get out of that? Nothing to be honest. We need a change, not critique.

Wasting punjab tax payer money and financing tandoors just to get re-elected is despicable. These are cosmetic measures, instead of increasing the supply of wheat by investing in infrastructure for farmers and improving crop yield and improving water management, these brothers are manipulating wheat markets in punjab. The people will be stunned once these subsidies are withdrawan and the punjab government defaults on its deficit. We need more sensible leaders then these brothers who are willing to destroy the long term prosperity for short term gains like getting elected.
