Foreign funding: Top court approves PTI's constitutional petition's against PML-N, PPP

CJP dispelled objections that were raised by the registrar office

Debate on the constitutional petitions filed in the Supreme Court (SC) against Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's (PML-N) foreign funds has ended with the case being approved for hearing by Chief Justice Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar, reported Express News.

According to Express News, the apex court has approved a hearing on the references of foreign funding of both the parties. The CJP dispelled the objections that were raised by the registrar office.



On September 12, PTI  moved the apex court over the issue requesting the Supreme Court to declare the PML-N and the PPP as foreign-funded parties, receiving funds from prohibited sources. In October, the top court refused to entertain PTI’s constitutional petitions.

The applications were filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) Asad Umar and Shireen Mazari. The CJP heard the requests in his chamber and then set guidelines for the initial hearing of the case.

PTI leader Farrukh Habib also filed two separate applications with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on the matter.
