Bisp Survey: Life insurance for a million on the cards

Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) will start a scorecard poverty survey in the Fata from today to ascertain the number of poor families.

An official said that over 70 per cent of the nationwide poverty survey has been completed and registration of families is underway. According to the official, the number of beneficiaries would increase to seven million in the next two months.

Chairperson BISP, Farzana Raja said that although the programme has achieved more than its assigned target in a span of three years, an allocation of Rs. 100 billion would be required in the forthcoming federal budget. Around one million deserving families have already been provided life insurance.

The Waseel-e-Haq scheme held 20 computerized ballots and trained 10,000 deserving families to initiate businesses with BISP assistance. Under the scheme, 150,000 deserving families would get vocational training.
