Turbat university launches two scholarship programmes

People donate Rs4m to Student Endowment Fund for promotion of higher education in region

QUETTA: The University of Turbat (UoT) has launched two scholarship programmes for underprivileged and talented students who want to become successful in life.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to regularise the Taj Muhammad Scholarship and Mir Elahi Bakhsh Rind Scholarship programmes was signed during a formal ceremony held at the UoT on Sunday.

The MoU was inked between QEC Director Prof Dr Gul Hassan and social worker Dr Shabir.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Abdul Razzaq Sabir, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof Dr Abdul Saboor Baloch, Registrar Prof Dr Hanif-ur-Rehman, Director Finance Ghulam Farooq Baloch, Gwadar Campus Director Ijaz Ahmed and PSO to VC Chakar Hyder were also present during the ceremony.

The Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarship, under the supervision of Dr Hassan, had launched a fund-raising campaign for the deserving and talented students.

30 FATA students handed scholarships 

Dr Shabir had donated Rs3 million to the student endowment fund to start the programmes – Rs1 million for Taj Muhammad Scholarship and Rs2 million for Mir Elahi Bakhsh Rind scholarships – for promotion of higher education in the region.

A couple of months ago Advocate Jadain Dashti had also donated Rs1 million to initiate Karim Dashti Scholarship programme for the same purpose.

On the occasion, Dr Hassan said, “Many philanthropists, donors and social welfare organisations are approaching the university administration with the commitment to contribute to the Student Endowment Fund for the good cause of promotion of higher learning in this far-flung part of the country.”

Australian university offers scholarships to students

Taking over the podium, UoT VC Sabir said, “The Turbat University is committed to promote and expand Student Endowment Fund for deserving students to make their future prosperous by acquiring higher education at UoT.”

He insisted upon donors and people from all walks of life to contribute to the Student Endowment Fund by sponsoring deserving students for higher studies.
