Theses display: Commercial lure top value for students

Twenty four students of Punjab University’s Department of Textile Design displayed final theses for their bachelors of fine arts degree on Saturday. They were made of knitted, woven or printed fabrics and ranged from furniture, apparels, interior designs, upholstery, lawn prints and fashion products.


Several students said they had had to spend around Rs100,000 each on the thesis. They said they had made the theses keeping in mind the recent trends so that they could attract buyers straight away.

Abid Hussain, who had designed a wall panel titled Bishnaw aznai, said that he hoped he would be able to sell the panel to some restaurant.

Madeeha Ayaz, another graduating student, said that it took the students around six months to complete their theses. She said it invoved research, sketching and printing designs. Ifza Jameel had designed a study room on tattoos. This year all 24 students passed the exam. The panel of judges included Yasir Waheed, Pakistan Institute of Fashion Design dean and Professor Muzzammil, Lahore School of Fashion Design dean.
