PESHAWAR:

A thalassaemia awareness week will be started from may 2 by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Thalassaemia Prevention Project (TPP), to mark the World Thalassaemia Day on May 8.

Chairperson organising committee thalassaemia, Nisar Mohammad Khan, told reporters at the Khyber Medical College (KMC) that most people in the remote areas of the province were not aware of this disease.

Khan said that the week would start off with a meeting with non-governmental organisations working on thalassaemia and their representatives will be trained on how to treat patients.

A workshop will be arranged to inform the patients and their parents about the nature of thalassaemia and a counselling session is scheduled on the third day. Media experts and students of the KMC would give recommendations on how to create awareness for the elimination of thalassaemia from the province.
