Speaking to The Express Tribune, a local resident blamed police for launching the door-to-door search operation at around midnight in their village and allegedly entering houses without the presence of ladies police.
He said Shahnawaz protested against the action and asked police to stop the operation. However, policemen started beating him instead, fracturing his arm.
The area nazim was then taken to the Paharipura police station and put behind the bars.
Later, a fake case was registered against him.

At around 2am, local residents launched a protest against the high-handedness of police and demanded that Shahnawaz should be released immediately.
Police, however, refused to oblige the demand, leading a large number of protesters to assemble outside the police station, threatening to attack it to get the injured nazim freed by force the next morning.
Local MPA Arbab Jehandad also joined the protests that continued till 12:30 pm. CCPO Tahir Khan later suspended the SHO and formed an inquiry committee to investigate the matter.
“An inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the matter headed by the SSP operation which has been tasked to submit its report within 24 hours and those found responsible would be punished,” said CCPO Khan.
Meanwhile, the injured nazim has been shifted to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) for treatment.
