‘Quality education key to development’
VC says UAF faculty earned 11 out of 32 research projects under HEC

The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Vice-Chancellor Muhammad Iqbal Zafar has said that quality education, skilled manpower and tangible research works would pave the way for development and prosperity.
In a message on the occasion of New Year, he vowed to move the university to new horizon of development and prosperity with the tools of quality education, skilled manpower and tangible researches.
He said that the University had sustained growth in almost every quality parameter. He said in 2017, the UAF dedicated faculty topped the country by earning 11 out of 32 research projects under HEC Technology Development Fund. “It also clinched first position by winning 31 research productivity awards under Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of Pakistan.
He maintained the UAF had established a research culture at the campus and research funding from diversified sources was more than Rs2.6 billion where one third was international funding and one third was sponsored by Higher Education Commission.
Iqbal Zafar pointed out that this year, Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the first and largest ever girls’ hostel at the varsity.
“The universities have attained a new shape during the last 15 years under the financial and technical assistance provided by the HEC for diversified degree programmes,” the VC said.
He said, “The UAF has elevated 89 degree programmes to 168 for BS, Masters, MPhil and PhD.”
He elaborated, “Education has become a top priority agenda in emerging knowledge based economies and we are looking forward to partnerships with world ‘s leading universities on the basis of their performance.”
Zafar said the ranking of a university was one of the most important factors considered by overseas students when choosing where to study.
He said, “QS World University has placed UAF at 87th rank in the world. It is ranked 72nd in National Taiwan Ranking, whereas, HEC has placed UAF at number one university in agricultural sciences.”
He said that UAF was the only university in Pakistan catering to the needs of the rural community by allocating 75% seats from all districts of Punjab to provide quality education.
The vice-chancellor added that Chinese Confucius Institute was being run at the campus while 288 PhD scholars were availing the facility of HEC funded fellowship.
