SHC seeks replies from Rangers DG, IG

Saad Shamsi and Ashraf were allegedly picked up by law enforcement agencies

LARKANA: The Sindh High Court (SHC) sought on Monday comments from the Rangers director-general (DG), inspector-general of police and other officials on a petition seeking whereabouts of two citizens who went missing.

A division bench was hearing petitions filed for the recovery of Saad Shamsi and Ashraf believed by their families to have been picked up by law enforcement agencies from separate areas of Karachi in separate incidents.

Family members of the missing men had approached the high court against law enforcement agencies and authorities concerned, seeking whereabouts of their loved ones.

The court was informed that the Rangers had picked up Shamsi from Gizri and Ashraf from Korangi but the paramilitary force did not show their arrest or produce them before any court.



The petitioners submitted that the family members were going through severe mental agony in the absence of missing men, adding that all their efforts to trace them had no avail.

Citing the Rangers DG, IG and home secretary as respondents, petitioners pleaded to the court to direct the respondents to produce the missing persons before court.

After the initial hearing, the court issued notices to federal and provincial law officers and the respondents, directing them to submit their respective replies by the next hearing.
