More CAA officers back complaint against DG

Protest at airports threatened by employees

A rebellion by top officials of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) against Director General Air Marshall (retd) Asim Suleiman continues with the sensitive institution facing a threat of its operations being paralysed.

The number of officers complaining against inhumane treatment and use of foul language has risen to 200 after 32 more colleagues joined them. Three complaint letters have been written by a deputy director general, directors, additional and general managers. Meanwhile, the traffic controllers’ gild has also endorsed the officers and employees’ stance against alleged insulting attitude of the DG.

The complaint was lodged in a letter written by the deputy director general, human resource chief and other senior officers to the aviation secretary. They requested a psychiatric examination of the DG and his removal from the post.



The three-page letter accused the DG of adopting a degrading attitude with the officers and employees since November 23, 2015. The complainants demanded replacement of the CAA chief by a capable officer. Two more letters were later written to the secretary by directors, additional directors and other officers.

The third letter bearing the signatures of dozens of CAA officers and employees urged the secretary to take notice of the DG’s attitude. It said the employees were under considerable stress because of the behavior of their boss.

The complainants, including senior directors, said the DG insulted the officers in front of their subordinates and the problem persisting for the past two years had resulted in mental and heart conditions from them.

On the other hand, the employees having served in the organisation for years have also warned that if their complaints are not taken seriously, they can adopt other measures, including protests at airports all over the country.
