The accused, Pervez Musharraf, is no longer in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has now openly accused former president and army chief Pervez Musharraf of being responsible for his mother Benazir Bhutto’s murder. It has taken a decade for the party chairman to openly call someone responsible for the slain leader’s death.
However, the court’s verdict this year in the case acquitted the five accused allegedly belonging to a militant outfit on the basis of lack of evidence while declaring Musharraf an absconder. But what is more surprising is that though the party has filed a petition challenging the court’s verdict, it is no secret that throughout the decade the party itself remained less than bothered about the case and its proceedings. And only on her 10th death anniversary the party chairman held someone responsible for the murder. Considering that the accused, Pervez Musharraf, is no longer in Pakistan, it is less likely that any significant action against him will be taken.
