MQM-P chief urges PSP leadership to shun 'politics of distributing treason certificates'

Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) chief Dr Farooq Sattar said, on Tuesday, that the next Sindh chief minister will be from his party if fresh census results portray true population of the province.

Speaking to reporters outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) headquarters in Islamabad, he said all efforts to break the party’s vote bank will go in vain, adding that MQM-P will emerge victorious from all urban centres of the province in next year’s elections, Express News reported.

“We haven’t prepared to contest for prime minister’s slot, however, Sindh chief minister’s seat will belong to MQM-P if true results of census are announced,” he claimed.



In an apparent reference to the Mustafa Kamal led Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP), Sattar said political rivals could only hurl allegations as actions taken by the party on August 23, 2016, were reflective of its sincerity.

Sattar had announced to distance the party from its founder Altaf Hussain after anti-Pakistan slogans were chanted during his speech on the mentioned date, inciting workers to attack a few local media offices.

The statement came after Arshad Vohra, the deputy mayor Karachi who has recently joined PSP after parting ways with Sattar’s party, had alleged that the MQM-P was still being run from London.



The MQM-P chief was in the federal capital to attend hearing of a reference, filed in the ECP by the party to de-seat Vohra.

Sattar urged the PSP leadership to shun politics of distributing treason certificates and let courts decide the sub-judice cases.

“Arshad Vohra’s counsel is distributing certificates of treason… he should focus on the issue at hand rather than hurling baseless accusations,” he said.
