KARACHI: A suspected criminal associated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has reportedly been arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The suspect, identified as Shafi alias Dhobi, was arrested by the Dubai police. According to a source in Dubai, the suspect was arrested on the request of Pakistani authorities and has yet to be transferred to Pakistan.

Sources in the Karachi police said that the accused worked for the MQM and was wanted in several cases of crime, including targeted killings and China-cutting. Efforts to bring him back to the country were under way, the sources added.

ATC orders arrest of absconding accused

A couple of days ago, an alleged targeted killer belonging to the MQM, Raees Mamma, was arrested in Malaysia by Interpol. Several other suspects belonging to the same political party including the key suspects in Baldia Town factory fire Hammad Siddiqui and Rehman Bhola have also been arrested from the UAE and Thailand respectively.
